CHAPTER 7: FLAME IN THE WIND

Alexander’s expression was completely rotten. He looked at the few figures who were shouting on the stands a few meters below him. Olivia and Mikhail were at his side. Alexander spoke with a rage-filled voice.

“That fucking worm.”

Salazar Yarhim. That was the name of the man Alexander had grown to hate the most.

From the beginning, Alexander had disagreed with the position the man was granted. Placing Salazar in a position of power, even if only to keep him close and stay aware of his machinations, was a risk Alexander would have never been willing to take. He would have already cut off the hateful man’s head if he were able to. Not for the first time, Alexander cursed the way Liam had covered the entire planet in Aura. It made him unable to act on his own.

Olivia shook her head with a calm expression, keeping her cool as expected.

“There’s not much we can do anymore. We need to widen the gap between him and us.”

Mikhail gritted his teeth. He pointed at the people on the stands, almost shouting.

“Just look at them! He thinks he can do whatever he wants to! We need to stop this!”

Alexander retorted.

“I know already. I need to figure out a way to do so.”

The situation was dire. It had been two months since Liam granted Salazar direct access to Drakkhan knowledge and technology. The President had absorbed it all like a sponge; initially, he had attempted to select the one thousand people closest to him, but Liam saw through his plan. After making a decision based on the sheer amount of information available to him, Liam disappeared. Salazar had enough time to bring the selected one thousand people over to his side.

The knowledge was being shared only in bits and pieces. Salazar’s people selected others for a test. Those who passed would be able to study the knowledge that the Drakkhan had shared. The test included a proof of loyalty; it could be said that all of those who passed either were already in Salazar’s faction or would be brought over eventually. There was no alternative. Salazar controlled all of human and Drakkhan knowledge.

Alexander cursed.

“What the fuck is this? The Catholic Church in medieval times?”

Mikhail sighed.

“Shit’s been getting real dystopian for a while now. Liam isn’t helping.”

“Liam isn’t doing anything. He might as well have died. The only thing that tells us he’s still alive is the Aura covering the entire fucking planet.”

Alexander projected his resentment on humanity’s king. Deep down, he thought he was being unfair. Liam had saved them from the war against the Drakkhan, saved them from Luweth, and continued to protect all of them with his Aura. However, that didn’t make the anger within him less real. He had plenty of reasons to resent Liam.

Mikhail went silent as Alexander continued to speak.

“He doesn’t tell us what he’s planning or what he’s doing. He appointed Salazar as humanity’s President without asking for anyone’s opinion. He ended the war and
